Illustrated Index
J. Randall Stanley's
History of Gadsden County
1948
This hardbound book contains 250 pages and is very strong in the areas of the War and Reconstruction era and in the story of the shade tobacco industry.
In the early 1980s, Mr. Avant came across the old yellowed proof sheets. He made a full name, place, and subject index and added photographs of over 100 persons mentioned in Mr. Stanley’s history. No changes were made in the original history. This is a very unique book - it is as originally written – ending in the middle of a sentence in the story of Havana. In 1948, a misunderstanding arose and Mr. Stanley’s history book of Gadsden County was never quite completed.
